2024
variable edition of 5
7 x 9 (closed), 42 pages
This handmade artist's book, with original prose, is an autobiographical journey through the difficult landscape of new widowhood. It offers the viewer a window into that experience: moving as though through fog, not being able to see very far ahead, and not knowing where the path may lead. The arc of the story encompasses many emotions: walking a loved one through terminal illness, the rawness of overwhelming grief, the remembering and mourning what has been lost, as well as the eventual realization that moving forward is necessary. In the final pages the fog lightens, and offers the possibility of a hopeful future.
The tulle fabric pages and cover were embedded with layers of yarn fiber to mimic wisps of fog. This gives the book a delicate transparency and a cloud-like feel. The unbound presentation and hand-stitched feathery edging further the "widow's fog" feel.
Tulle fabric, yarn, digitall printing, hand-stitched edging. Signed and numbered.
